REWE Romania opens 19 mln euro logistics center in Bacau

BUCHAREST (Romania), March 30 (SeeNews) – Food retailer REWE Romania said on Thursday it opened a logistics center in the town of Bacau following a 19 million euro ($20.4 million) investment.The new 19,000 sq m logistics facility will supply 45 Penny Market stores in Romania’s northeastern region and will employ 150, REWE said in a press release. The investment was announced in May 2016.REWE plans to increase the logistics center’s capacity to supply up to 100 Penny stores.”The project is part of the national development strategy of the Penny Market distribution network and complements the two existing centers in Turda and Bucharest,” REWE Romania general manager, Daniel Gross, said.The logistics center in Bacau was built using modern technological solutions in order to reduce energy consumption and CO2 footprint. The center uses an integrated LED lighting system featuring automatic controls, which reduces energy consumption by 40%.German-based REWE Group has been present in Romania since 2005. REWE Romania operates 200 Penny Market stores and 6 XXL Mega Discount units across the country.At the end of 2015, REWE sold Billa supermarket chain in Romania to France’s Carrefour for almost 100 million euro.($= 0.9313 euro)
